Q1: The different ways that movies are advertised are the following:
1. Print e.g.(Posters Campaigns)
2. Moving image e.g.(Teaser Trailers)
3. Websites
4. Radio
5. Viral marketed
6. Broadcast advertising e.g.(TV)
7. Promotion (so the viewers wins prizes)
8. Social Networking(use the big social networking site (like face book and twitter)
9. Fake Websites –to create a buzz and excitement before a release of a film.
Q2: The term viral marketing means the way movie maker using innovative ideas to try to create an atmosphere or buzz before a movie release. So new releases like iron man 2 and district 9 have followed the trend of viral marketing
So they ways movies are doing viral marketing are by the following;
Creating blogs= so people around the world can all have their own opinions and sometime help to produces songs, posters, comic strips and trailers. So they can feel they can be a part of the whole movie making process. Furthermore the blog can be updated regularly by someone of high status of the film E.G the screenwriter of war of the world created a blog.
This blog initiated an unquantifiable wave of hype for the movie and also further proven by the overall movie gross profit of excess of $60million worldwide, and finally the screenwriter even changed specific scene so they can make them more violent and sex which was from suggestions from followers of the blogs
False Product placement= so movie like “Cloverfield” created a product called Slusho! So people whom had registered to site receive sonar images of the monster in the movie swimming towards Manhattan when the whole process was to exploit the viewers believe of the realistic nature of the fictional monster. This again raised speculation over Slusho role in the whole movie.
Q3: my own example of viral marketing comes from the movie called The Blair Witch Project. This movie started the whole scenario about the topic of viral marketing
So the types of viral marketing used in this film are
1. Archive photos
2. police reports
3. Interviews
4. Detailed back story added to the illusion that the movie was cut from recently discovered footage.
So all of above helped to create the whole atmosphere around the movie and to further prove that the movie is realistic in it nature and is showing a true story not fictional.
Finally new released movie like 2012 and District 9 are following the same trends of viral marketing to the same purpose to show the realistic nature of the movie.
